Georgia High Risk Drivers

Georgia High Risk DriversIf you are a Georgia driver, you’ve probably heard about the new super speeding laws that recently went into effect—fining drivers an additional $200 for excessive speeding. What you may not know, however, is that individuals convicted of super speeding will be labeled Georgia high risk drivers and will face higher auto insurance payments as well as other life-altering consequences as a result.

According to the Georgia Super Speeder Law, any person who is convicted of driving more than 84 mph—or more than 74 mph on a two-lane road—will be fined an additional $200 fine for “super speeding.” While at first glance this fee may seem minimal, remember that the $200 is on top of Georgia’s already steep speeding fines—which, according to Forbes Magazine, are among the most expensive in the United States.

In addition to fees, drivers who are convicted of super speeding will have up to four points added to their driver’s license (15 points over a two-year period results in an automatic license suspension), and can be imprisoned for up to twelve months. Plus, since a super speeding offense falls into the same category as a reckless driving charge—meaning it is a type of criminal misdemeanor—the conviction will show up on the person’s criminal record.

But it still doesn’t end there—since super speeders are considered high risks, or in other words, unsafe drivers, convicted individuals will also find themselves shelling out much more money for automobile insurance. And once deemed high risk, most insurance companies require Georgia high risk drivers to maintain a spotless driving record (aka, no tickets or accidents) for at least five years. Other insurance providers may opt to drop the convicted driver’s coverage altogether.

As you can see, super speeding is a serious offense. If you are found guilty of breaking the Georgia Super Speeder Law, the conviction will follow you around long after you pay that additional $200 fee. Don’t let yourself be labeled as one of the many Georgia high risk drivers—if you have recently received a ticket for breaking the Georgia Super Speeder Law, it is important that you speak with an attorney first. When compared to the fees and inflated insurance costs you will most likely pay, hiring an attorney is actually the best option for both your wallet and your future.
